#123: Anurei (Anubis + Yūrei (Japanese word for "afterlife"))
Afterlife Pokemon
Ht: 6' 03"     Wt: 146.5 lbs
Type: Ground/Ghost
Description: Many ancient cultures deem ANUREI as the god of the afterlife. It determines whether or not departed spirits are granted eternal peace. It is also able to control the desert landscape, ranging from forging fierce sandstorms to even creating living soldiers out of sand.

Emerging from the depths of the Spirit World, I present Anurei, the Afterlife Pokemon!
In terms of stats, Anurei is primarily an offensive Pokemon, having  rather high physical and special attack stats (though it's special attack is slightly lower than his physical strength). On the other hand, he isn't exactly the fastest thing on the field and his physical defense is somewhat lacking. As for his typing, he does have quite a few weaknesses, but most moves of these types are special based, and Anurei's special defense can let him definitely take a few hits. Plus, his ability can completely negate one of these weaknesses, but we'll get to that in a bit.
On the subject of Anurei's moves, he has a LOT of powerful moves at his disposal, armed with attacks like Force Palm, Hyper Beam, Dark Pulse, Phantom Force, Giga Impact, FISSURE, and, of course, the almighty Earthquake right in his level-up moveset! On top of those, he can also moves like Wrap, Wring Out, Curse, and Sandstorm, as well as a move known as Shadow Spell, which is essentially a Ghost-typed Fire Spin move. However, he does come armed with a rather interesting move: Terraform. As an attack, it's basically a weaker Earthquake, having only 85 base power. But what makes it interesting is its added effects. Terraform actually has the power to remove all entry hazards from the field, meaning no more Spikes and Stealth Rock to worry about! It also completely nullifies all of the "terrain" moves, such as Grassy Terrain and Misty Terrain. In other words, it completely levels the playing field, making Terraform is invaluable move. Plus, 85 power is nothing to sneeze at, and a good number of Rock and Ground types can learn it.
As for TM versatility...don't expect much. It's pretty much just a blend of rock/Ground types versatility and Ghost/Dark type versatility. Psychic is pretty much as varied as you're gonna get with his moves.
But then we get to his signature stuff! Remember that ability I mentioned earlier? It's called Phantom Drive, and it has two effects. The first effect allows him to get a sharp increase in his attack stats when hit with a Ghost-type attack, completely negating damage from said attack in the process, and thus removing one of his 5 weaknesses! The second effect enable him to not have to charge or recharge two-turn attacks such as Hyper Beam or Phantom Force, but at the cost of 1/8 of your HP. this make Phantom Force an extraordinary ability, but it can be easily be abused, so keep your HP in mind.
And finally comes the matter of Anurei's signature attack: Soul Rend. It's a powerful physical Ghost-type move, having a hefty 100 base power (but 90 accuracy to compensate). You have to recharge after to use it, but it also allows Anurei to regain 1/2 of the HP it took from the opponent, making it a very dangerous move to go up against!
In summary, while Anurei may not be the best overall legendary, its assortment of powerful moves and its Phantom Drive ability more than make for it! Don't mess with the God of the Afterlife!!
